Just hours after they went to sleep, U.S. Army Special Forces assaulted the house. They kicked down the door, rushed to the roof and began shooting at everybody below. <br />The site that had so recently been a scene of dancing and celebration was now a pile of bodies and a river of blood.<br /><br />Two of the dead were women who were both seven-months pregnant, and already mothers with several children. Another was a teenage girl. Two of the men who were killed were highly respected members of the community. Two young grandchildren also lay critically wounded in the slaughter.<br /><br />Two of the casualties survived for over two hours. Their families begged the Special Forces soldiers to give them medical attention, but were refused. As if the initial bloodbath was not enough, the besieged family had to watch two of their relatives slowly bleed to death, denied medical care, as U.S. troops stood guard. (Huffington Post, April 29)<br /><br />One of the family members in the house, Sayid Mohammad Mal, an assistant dean at the local university, corroborated all other eyewitness accounts, which assert that there was no fighting or insurgents in or around the area, and that the troops fired indiscriminately at the fleeing women and children. U.S. Special Forces raided the home expecting to find an insurgent hideout from a tip they received, but instead found a family. That did not stop the soldiers from shooting most of them.<br /><br />The Special Forces raid was conducted with no regard for human life. Not surprisingly, their behavior was the same after the raid. The attack did not culminate with dead insurgents with AK-47s, but dead women, their stomachs extended with pregnancy. They knew that this all-too-familiar aftermath would be another headline exposing the brutal nature of the occupation as the war enters the bloodiest year yet for Afghan civilians, while Washington is struggling to hold on to dwindling public support. Because their brutality was on full display, they stayed true to their colonial logic, and decided to try to solve the problem with more brutality.<br /><br />They knew the two men could be labeled “insurgents”—just as every military-age male in Afghanistan is “fair game”—but the three women posed a problem. So they pulled out their knives, plunged them into the women’s bodies and dug out the bullets. The fungus, according to expert microbiologists, who have expressed alarm about the emergence of the strain, is a new genotype of Cryptococcus gatti fungi. Cryptococcus gatti is normally found in tropical and subtropical locations in India, South America, Africa and Australia. Microbiologists in the United States are reporting that the strain found here, for reasons not yet fully understood, is far deadlier than any found overseas.<br /><br />Physicians in the Pacific Northwest are reporting that an undetermined number of people in the region are ill from the effects of the strange strain. Physicians also say that the virulent strain can infect domestic animals as well as humans, and symptoms do not appear until anywhere from two to four months after exposure. Symptoms in humans include a lingering cough, sharp chest pains, fever, night-sweats, weight-loss, headaches and shortness of breath. The strain can be treated successfully, if detected early enough, with oral doses of antifungal medication, but it cannot be prevented, and there is no preventative vaccine. Today, prosecutors won a temporary victory. The Hutaree militia members release is delayed allowing the prosecution to determine whether or not the they will appeal the release of the militia members to await trial. Read about it below and see photos and a video.<br /><br />U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts had ordered that nine members of the Hutaree militia group be released on bond to await their trials for plotting to wage war against the United States government and plans to use ‘weapons of mass destruction’. Now, prosecutors have won a temporary delay in their release. Prosecutors have been <a href="http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/2010/05/judge_suspends_earlier_decisio.html" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.mlive.com');">given until</a> Wednesday at 5 p.m. to declare whether or not they will appeal the ruling to free the militia members. When that declaration is presented to Judge Roberts, she will determine whether to further delay their release.<br /><br />Prosecutors have argued that the Hutaree militia members are too dangerous to be freed from jail to await their trial. The Lenawee County, Michigan group has been jailed since their arrest in March on charges of conspiracy to commit sedition, or rebellion, against thegovernment and attempted use of weapons of mass destruction.<br /><br />In her decision to release the group pending trial, the judge said that the prosecution had failed to persuade her that the militia members should be denied bail. sinful.<br /><br />Dale Mcalpine was handing out leaflets to shoppers when he told a passer-by and a gay police community support officer that, as a Christian, he believed homosexuality was one of a number of sins that go against the word of God. <br /><br />Mr Mcalpine said that he did not repeat his remarks on homosexuality when he preached from the top of a stepladder after his leafleting.<br /><br />But he has been told that police officers are alleging they heard him making his remarks to a member of the public in a loud voice that could be overheard by others<br /><br />Mr Mcalpine, 42, who earns about £40,000 a year in the energy industry, was arrested and taken to the local police station in the back of a police van after preaching in the Cumbrian town of Workington on April 20. <br />After seven hours locked up in a cell, he was charged with using abusive or insulting words or behaviour contrary to the Public Order Act 1986. <br /><br />Mr Mcalpine – who has delivered open-air sermons and handed out leaflets in Workington for years, and has never been in trouble with the police – said the incident was one of the worst moments of his life.<br />‘I felt deeply shocked and humiliated that I had been arrested in my own town and treated like a common criminal in front of people I know,’ he said. <br /><br />‘My freedom was taken away on the hearsay of someone Until now, the £23million Global Hawk aircraft has not been available for foreign sale. <br /><br />However, US policy has been quietly changed and Britain is now negotiating to buy the drones. America is keen to supply them for British patrols after a string of terror plots threatening the US and its citizens. <br /><br />These include the attempt in 2006 to detonate liquid bombs on aircraft flying to American cities from the UK. It is not known how many drones the UK wants from manufacturer Northrop Grumman, but earlier this year a senior Ministry of Defence procurement official visited the Pentagon to begin negotiations.</blockquote><blockquote>Britain would not need to use the drones in Afghanistan and Pakistan because the US already provides full air coverage in the region.
